Reddish Vale Country Park
In the summer of 1928 the last otter hunt in the Tame Valley took place near Arden Hall.
Because the river at that time was so polluted there were no fish and the otter had to resort to killing poultry near Castle Hill. The otter was spotted in the river and shot by a local man called Barton, the otter was then dragged from the river and killed.
The dead otter was sold, stuffed and displayed in aid of St Johns Ambulance Brigade at Acres Inn at Denton.
