Reddish Vale Country Park

The archaeological dig on the site of Wood Hall at Reddish Vale Country Park started on Monday by archaeologists and volunteers from Salford University, a JCB went in a couple of days earlier to remove the top soil.

For the first few days the main area being excavated is the Wood Hall Farm site, local school children have started excavating on the Wood Hall site.

There have already been a number of finds including, marble and ceramic tiles, a poison bottle and this spanner found on the farm site.

Wood Hall

Dig

Although the first week of the dig is focused on the Wood Hall Farm site, there has been some work on the Hall area, in the photos below a pit is opened revealing part of a wall of the Hall.

The photos and video below were taken on the first day of the dig on the farm site, and show the various types of materials used for flooring, stone flags, bricks, concrete and cobble stones.
